Re: Are S&B primers harder?
I must be lucky, in over 8k S&B SPP I have not had a single miss fire (one hang fire though).
In my experience S&B are slightly more difficult to seat and I think this is where the light strikes are coming in.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
Light strikes on a Glock is not the norm. So I hope you will be fine.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
I have used a couple thousand S&B Small Pistol primers and have had no issues, in various firearms and various calibers too.

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
My experience is a bit different.
Some years ago, Muron was my preferred primer for DA revolver shooting. They are not available any more.
Now I use S&B in all my handgun reloads, revolver and pistol.
I found that Federal, Winchester, CCI and PMP all gave me the odd dud primer [ in small frame and large frame revolver, striker fired and hammer fired pistols ], but so far none with S&B.
S&B primers are supposed to be the 'softest'.Last edited by 414gates; 22-06-2015 at 15:22. Reason: correction

Re: Are S&B primers harder?
The first thing to do is make sure the pistol is working properly.
If it's striker fired, you have to clean the firing pin channel. It must be completely dry. If it's fired a few thousand rounds, look for possible spring replacement. Lots of possible hardware causes, it becomes trial and error.
Another common cause of light strikes is press primer seating that is a bit out of whack. The primer is flush, but not fully seated in the primer pocket.
If the pocket is not tight, the first or second strike basically moves the primer, then the subsequent strike ignites it.
Ignition problems are mostly gun problems, second mostly a primer seating issue, and only very rarely is it a bad primer.
I'm happy with using S&B, but I do not believe that there is any best brand of primer.
People have experienced the occasional dud at some point with every brand on the market.
