    Default Power factor - 7.62x39

    Hi, can anyone tell me what the power factor of 7.62x39 is?
    minor or major?

    For which sport?

    For IDPA the 7.62 would put you in major.

    For IPSC I believe Major requires a power factor of 320 (I stand to be corrected on this)

    There is a test going on Major at 280 due to 7.62 Russian and the use thereoff in Europe. IPSC is considering lowering major factor to 280 to accommodate the Russian.

    Correct, so would need a 123gr bullet to do over 2600fps

    The norinco stuff is 123gr at 2300fps, (i think)? So minor then?

    Out of what barrel?

    But yeah, (123gr x 2300fps)/1000 = 282.9pf, so enough for the 280pf being considered but as things stand now it's minor.

    (123gr x 2600fps)/1000 = 319.8pf

    I think that the 280 proposal was voted down last year but if someone knows otherwise I would love to hear it.

    Good. If they start making concessions to accommodate one calibre then where will this end?
