The Importance of Target ID.
Below is a link to an article about THE IMPORTANCE OF TARGET IDENTIFICATION.
It is imo important to take note of the authors suggestion that you do not point your handgun where you illuminate.
So I would think having a wml on your handgun means that it is still advisable to have a handheld light for ID.
There is ofcourse the important finger off the trigger untill you have identified your target and what is beyond it but we cannot assume that all handgun owners are dedicated practioners of this although they should be.
Using a rifle in this low light home scenario has it own issues and imo it will not be for someone who does not have a 100% competenT finger self discipline.
We have the usual 4 levels of competence with the 4th level being unconscious competence but I found a graph which suggests an additional level of competence which I think is important in these scenarious and that is, or could be, mindful competence.
