I really want one of these. Played with one at Sharp Edge Sandton. Just a little too rich for me at current SA prices. Very nice folder. A little heavy but a knife with beautiful lines.

Main reason for me would be the price. Holy crap! Just over R3k!

At 3K I would save a bit more money and buy a local makers product. That is why the only production knife I have bought in the past 4 years is a Swiss Farmer. It is still a reasonable price. We are getting hammered on production knives cost lately IMO. Your mileage may vary.

What do you want it for? Just to have it, ok. For serious use I would attend a course and make myself what I want. Far more satisfying.

Ds J I don't have the skill or inclination to make my own knife. I am basically looking for a bullet proof hunting knife that will last a life time. In the past I have probably spent twice the amount on rubbish knives. I am now a firm believer in buy once cry once. So any other suggestions would be appreciated.

How often do you hunt? If it's 2~3 times a year, a standard Buck or Kershaw hunting knife will do fine for that purpose. I've got a Kershaw fixed blade that's 9 years old now, used a bit during hunting and it still looks and works as good as it did when it was new. Except it's sharper now.

I would then follow Martinus's advice and go for a custom knife from a South African knife maker. He can put you in touch with some people as I know he knows the industry well.

For something to last a long time you also want it to be special and custom for you.

Having said that I went the ESEE route for a fixed blade as the steel and heat treatment is excellent. Got it when I was in the states though

If you want a folder and production buy a Benchmade Griptilian. It will last you a lifetime and cost is significant lower.
