LAS VEGAS (FOX5) - The eldest son of a family living at a northeast Las Vegas home was the person who shot two intruders Tuesday morning, according to an arrest report released Wednesday.
The report released by Las Vegas Metro police details the residents’ accounts of the beak-in and shooting at their home in the 3800 block of King Palms Avenue, near the intersection of Alexander and Walnut roads.
According to the report, children were playing in the home when they heard a knock at the door. One of them answered.
A woman, who police identified as 28-year-old Tiffany Carter, said that her car had broken down nearby and her child was inside.
She asked to use the family’s phone to call for help. When the child began to close the door, Carter forced her way inside, grabbed the child, put him in a headlock and covered his mouth.
That was when a gun-wielding man walked into the home, pointed a gun at the child and ordered him to be quiet.
The man walked back to the eldest son’s bedroom and kicked in the door, according to the report.
The man fired a shot at the son, who was sleeping. The son grabbed his own handgun and returned fire, wounding the man.
The intruder ran down the hall, and the son fired again. The intruder dropped his gun and ran out of the house.
Meanwhile, Carter had stormed into the mother’s bedroom and began struggling to steal her purse, according to the report.
The son came out of his room, heard the commotion and shot Carter. He took his mother’s purse back from Carter, and she ran outside.
The son followed her outside and asked her why she did this. She replied that she was “trying to protect the kids.”
According to the report, the son noticed the male intruder getting into a gold, four-door car that was parked in front of the house.
The son retrieved his AK-47 and shot out a tire on the car in an effort to keep the pair from fleeing.
Carter and the male intruder jumped into the car and drove to North Vista Hospital to seek treatment, according to the report.
The man was dead by the time the pair arrived. Carter was taken to University Medical Center for treatment because of the severity of her injuries.
Carter has been charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, home invasion with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a home invasion.
The son told investigators that he had never before seen Carter or the man.
Investigators said a total of eight shots were fired by the son.
None of the residents were injured in the exchange.

Here they just get attempted murder and armed robbery charges or does it become more once they get caught?
