But you can't be shooting an ostrich would you shoot a chicken? Or a fish?

Don't get chickens in the wild, but I do shoot pigeon, guinea fowl and francolin. With a shotgun. And eat them. And some people actually catch fish. With a rod. And eat them.

This is tiresome. Start your own thread on the ethics of hunting volstruis or whatever.

    I'm outa here.

Try getting close to a wild ostrich to feed it by hand.. yeah right! Have you had a close look at those forward kicking toes/claws?
They have the keenest eyesight and have spoiled a couple of bowhunts (stillhunting, apparently not still enough!) that I have been on, when they share the veld with the hunted species. The other animals seem to be aware of this, because the Hartebees & Gemsbok were never very far from the ostriches in the veld.

    +1 ThomasT.

Sure shooting a tame ostrich will not be much of a challenge but if the meat is all that is required, who cares.

However, there are many farms with wild ostriches on them and hunting these can be as challenging as any hunting. I had a bad experience with a very cocky male ostrich on a farm at Pontdrift. This boy attacked us in the field. The guide fought it off with my shooting sticks while I stood by ready to shoot it in case he got into serious trouble. The funniest part of it was my wife trying to throw rocks at it. She is the ultimate example of "throws like a girl" and I think the guide was in more danger from a rock behind the ear than from the ostrich that was chasing him around a bush at one point.
