Best optic for Sas?
So I wanted to start a discussion on what you consider the best optic for Sas?
Let's keep it between the following:
1: red dot not magnified
2: red dot with magnification fixed
3: fixed power scope
4: variable scope.
Please give reasons and why and maybe example of the optic?
Cheers

Re: Best optic for Sas?
The best IMO (for the FAL) is the trijicon RMR, zero magnification, it's small, light and if it goes down you should be able to co witnesses the iron sights. It has a 9 MOA triangle that you can zero so that the top point of the triangle is set for say 200m, and for close in work you just put the triangle on CM.
Only issue I have with them is the price. I shoot iron sights so my opinion may be unqualified :)
If you get something just make sure it can;
1: handle the abuse - so it'll be expensive
2: be light enough not to weigh you down - so it'll be expensive.

Best optic for Sas?
Ok so I currently run a red dot on my AR that is a "cheap" one and so far no problems. Very lekker up to about 150 meters but then I start struggling.
That's why I ask have been thinking about changing to a scope but don't want to loose the close range ability of the rds.

Skywalker
I run a Nicon Monarch E 1.1-4x24 LR scope on my AR for Sas. With what we do, as you know, one optic has to do ALL! CQB - 300m and beyond, night shoots and yes your optics need to survive rain, mud, water, and more than just the normal bump. All this makes it either expensive or complex. I can only offer you my setup to test for yourself at a Sas session.
The RMR is awesome but magnification beyond 150m is nice, beyond 200m needed, beyond 300m a must. With a scope zero at 50m you can have Battle effective hits to 300m aiming centre mass (paper plate)
Hope to see you 15th

Take a look at the bushnell ar range... Relatively inexpensive compared to most. I have the one with the throw lever which makes changing mag. fast. You can shoot both eyes open at 1x .
