Default SMS by SAPS to legal Citizens....

    Morning all,

I just received a SMS from SAPS stating:
" SAPS urges SA Citizens to voluntarily hand in all illegal firearms before 11 April. For more info call National Firearms Call Centre 012 353 6111 "

Since I am legal and on their books for all the licenses I had to step through all the hoops.... Why the hell is SAPS hassling the normal law abiding citizens with crap like like this??????? What are they to gain through this??

    Report them for spam/unsolicited sms.
Find the WASP they used by putting the originating number in at www.smscode.co.za
If that doesn't give any results, doesn't matter. Fill in the complaint form at www.waspa.org.za, giving the originating number as a reference.
I've used this service with great success and it may even lead to fines being imposed.

Hehe, I'll take that as a compliment, thanks

It can be demoralising trying to list the points of the code of conduct that was breached. Don't let that stop you. These guys take their role as a governing body very seriously and it's very satisfying knowing the sender has been given a hiding. Take a look at the fines they've dished out:
    http://www.waspa.org.za/code/complaints.php

Usually it's in the section 5 that senders break the rules.
    Most commonly:
    5.1.2
    5.1.3
    5.3.2

It may help reading through the whole code of conduct, it may reveal more area's where your everyday spammers are violating.

I have noticed they even use the advertising space in ''please call me's'' to spread the word about handing in firearms.

Wonder what all this is costing us....
