Did some wetpack testing this last week with my new 500 Jeffery and the Spoor 535gr and 570gr.

Wetpacks were shot at 10m and 25m.
535gr - 2250 fps
570gr - 2200 fps

Im a PH and thats the distances where i’ll most likely use them while hunting buffalo, so thats why i chose those distances.

I had a look at my load data and muzzle velocity is actually closer to 2700fps.
Load development was easy, I used S365 (105/B/24) in PMP cases with CCI200 primers. Started with 49.0gr S365 and worked up in 0.5gr increments to 50.5gr, where I got good accuracy and acceptable velocity.

Three shots group into 50mm at 200m, ES was 5.7fps and SD was 2.3fps, again for 3 shots.
The bullet has a quoted G1 BC of 0.44 and longer-range performance on game is good, the longest shot was at a baboon at 400m. It performs well on close range shots at high impact velocity too.

The only negative aspect about CX bullets is that I find it difficult to achieve the same maximum velocity as with most other bullets. However, it performs so well at 2700fps that I can't complain about terminal performance.

I’m having another go on the range this weekend with 165gr, S335 in 1:10 Howa after not quite getting it right with the 155gr Huntacs.

Happy to go back to the drawing board and try again with the 155’s.

I see that most of the copper bullets locally made have reached a refinement as to alloy hardness. They really perform excellently when compared with Barnes bullets.

I've said it before, but I remain convinced that in SA we are spoiled for choice on excellent quality hunting bullets.

Either it's not nearly as hard as the big overseas manufacturers like to make it sound, or I just got really lucky.

About 25 years ago I designed a monolithic hollow-point bullet (trying to solve a particular and somewhat non-existent problem), and had a batch made up.
I didn't do a massive amount of testing but did shoot a few into a dam, and one or two into wet-pack, and then shot a few animals with them.
I didn't really test at what velocities they stopped working, but at normal impact velocities they performed pretty much as well as any other mono hollow-point I have seen.
