Re: Thoughts on the Norinco Type 56
Just to clarify, it's not that AK recoil is hard, just that you will definitely notice the difference over an AR. Noticeably more so when rapid follow up shots are required. The bolt carrier feels like it comes to a stop against the rear trunion which in my experience then transmits a jolt through the stock to your shoulder such that the rear of the stock moves around on your shoulder. With a AR given both the lighter recoil and the ability to change spring and or buffer there is not the same jolt and the stock remains planted in your shoulder. As for the chinese ammo, for the most part we have very little else to compare it to to realise the difference. This was brought home to me recently when I was given some old Russian ammo to try. The accuracy was noticeably better.

Re: Thoughts on the Norinco Type 56
In summary:
1. It recoils less than 12Ga
2. It's more powerful than a .45
3. It's more reliable than a Glock
4. It's easier to hit with at 100 meters than a SIG P210
5. It holds more ammo than a Hi-Cap 9mm
6. It's cheap
Stop procrastinating and buy the f___'n thing! It the ultimate gun FFS!

Re: Thoughts on the Norinco Type 56
Is it side tracking the discussion to ask for opinions on how the Type 56 compares to the VZ58, which seems to be the next cheapest semi-auto rifle/carbine locally available?
If not, I'd be interested in some thoughts on that.

Zhukov.jpg
I see we can order this from GIcombatsupplies, but will it fit the type 56? It was mentioned it will need some modification but is it the grinder and cutting torch type of modification of just a little filing?

Re: Thoughts on the Norinco Type 56
The VZ58 is a smooth shooting gun. It is an option too, but has less chance for upgrading.
I don't know how much modification the handguard will need besides permanently removing the sling loop/ hand guard retainer.
Another thread specifically about the Type 56 and Zhukov stock shows a stock in place and it was fitted by a professional.
