If you could only own one...

Hello all

Like the title says, if you could own only one folder (I am sure glad this is not the case, but if it was) what knife would it be? I was reading a review of the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and the reviewer mentioned that if he could only own one knife it would propably be the Paramilitary 2. This got me thinking. At the moment I would have to say it would be my Zero Tolerance 350 but I have a Paramilitary 2 on the way so it might change. What production folder would you guys choose?

I bought a Spyderco Chanook 1 from African and a Lion Steer SR1. The Chanook will take over as my EDC from my Burger. I didnt really understand how handy the thumb lock is on a folder untill I tried it on the new SR1. My next knive that will take over from the Chanook as EDC will have a thumb lock for sure.

Cold steel swift had really caught my fancy but I haven't played with one yet so I will go with an old faithfull the Spyderco endura 4.

If it was any folder (including custom folders) it would have to be my HARM folder which was part of the forum group build.

If I was looking at production only, it would be either a Spyderco Endura4 or the Paramilitary 2. But that's from my extremely limited knowledge as a blade newbie

CRKT Otanashi Noh Ken. Long blade and very thin handle with the clip allowing it to ride deep so very easy to conceal. Blade design is not great for general utility stuff though.

My Spyderco Delica4 with Emerson wave. Small enough to not scare the office staff, and quick enough for me to trust it as my G19 backup.

The big problem with the paramilitary is once you have decided on the type, you then get faced with which one...:)

SOG Aegis for me. In my current collection that includes a Spyderco, Byrd, CRKT and Kershaw knives amongst others, the Aegis is still my go to EDC carry.

A few thoughts on this:- a big blade can do the job of a smaller one, but not always vice versa; - at least 4" / 10cm blade length- a proper knife design where blade and handle fit together in comfortable proportions and angles- high quality steel is NNB;- no hollow grind, preferably flat grind;- straight forward liner lock or back lock; no funny or unusual springs, assisted openers etc because that can jam or break;- a comfortable, strong grip- a strong tip for prying, stabbing etc- easy, one handed openingSpyderco Endura 4 tick all these blocks; there are other designs available. Even cheap handles can last but a low quality steel is frustrating; expensive knives do not always have a functional design.
