    Gunmen wound farmer, kill wife

2010-03-15 14:36Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for four men who shot dead the wife of a farmer in Colenso on Sunday night, police said.

The farmer, 70, was shot twice but he survived and was hospitalised, said Superintendent Jay Naicker.

“The farmer was busy milking cows with his employees when they were approached by four armed men who demanded cash. The wife, 64, was shot dead and he was shot twice but he survived,” he said.

Naicker said the attackers did not take anything and that the members of the Organised Crime Unit were investigating matter.

The DA described the incident as an act of intimidation.

"The senseless murder of an elderly woman and the attack on her husband is yet another tragedy for our country and the DA extends its deepest condolences to the family,” said Tom Stokes, DA member of the KwaZulu-Natal legislature.

He said the issue of farm killings was aggravated by the singing of struggle songs that advocated the killing of farmers.

ANCYL president Julius Malema caused uproar when he sang a song which some people viewed as advocating the killing of farmers.

"Malema's actions, along with subsequent attempts by the ANC's Gwede Mantashe to justify his conduct, stand in stark contrast to the pain and suffering being experienced by this family and the many others before them,” he said.

He said the argument by the ANC that the song was merely a preservation of struggle literature, rang hollow in the face of a family that has lost a wife, mother and grandmother.

    Two held for farm attack

    2010-03-16 11:03

Durban - Two men were expected to be charged in connection with the farm attack which left a farmer seriously wounded and his wife dead in Colenso, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday
Two men were found in possession of the farmer’s firearm believed to have been stolen during the attack, said Superintendent Jay Naicker.
The farmer, Nigel Ralfe, 70, was shot twice and survived but his wife Lynette, 68, was killed on Sunday night.
A statement released by the DA on Monday stated that four people were nabbed in connection with the attack but Naicker had since corrected the figure.
He said six people were taken in for questioning on Monday and that only two were detained.
“They have not been charged but they will be charged soon since the firearm has linked them to the attack,” he said.
The farmer was milking cows with his employees when they were approached by four armed men who demanded cash.

it should be seen as an incitement to violence, and he should be held partially responsible, after all if i say to my followers, go and kill black members of the ANC, and they do so, have i not sanctioned the deaths to a degree if not exclusively?

Hummm...interesting concept. I seem to recall a little short guy from Austria who never pulled a trigger in WWII being directly responsible for millions of deaths...

Yup, but he was white so he was born evil and was pre-disposed to mass murder.

Being black like Julius however, means you're automatically programmed for sainthood and can do no wrong...

He's been found guilty of hatespeech, no question there. Off the top of my head I cant recall the official connection between hatespeech and incitement to violence. This is the flipside of freedom of expression. Very interesting is the case of the Nationalist Socialist Party of America vs the Village of Skokie, in which it was ruled that the neo-Nazis were allowed to march through the predominantly Jewish village clad in their regalia. Not quite the same, but food for thought.
