    Default Baboon problem

My friend has a problem with baboons at his wedding venue, they like to chase the guets around. It's two young males that's causing all the problems. Now the question is do you only shoot the two trouble makers or the dominant male? What calibre rifle will be the minimum?

If you have to cull any, LEAVE the alpha male alone. He is usually the only male who will mate with the harem. If you remove him, well lets just say a porn movie orgy won't have anything on what will follow

I would say shoot the trouble makers first. Baboons are very intelligent and as soon as you take a couple of them out they will very quickly learn to keep their distance. Baboons are really only a problem when they have no fear of humans.

If he didn`t wanted problems then he should not have invited the youth leauge representatives.

But seriously. .22LR with silencer right between they eyes will do the trick.

You oaks are hystirical. I think a 22 is far too light. dont bank on a between the eyes shot. A .22 is also wind sensitive and not able to fire premium bullets. if you stuff up your between the eyes shot and only hurt him, you aint gonna find him to finish him. thats not what we are about. Alos, Baboons do charge. do you want to hang around with this massive Baboon chasing you down.

Take a body shot with anything that is a centre fire, and try to visualise his heart in his chest and you should be OK. if you have premium bullets then all the better.

If he is singing Wamshimi wam at the time, then awesome.

I agree with SNAM. Baboons are tough and you are not going to get many close shots. Between the eyes aint gonna happen too often. I would go with a center fire as well and shoot for the vitals. This will be good practice for TEOTWAWKI.

P.S. Can I come shoot them please.

We also have a problem with baboons and vervet monkeys at our home. Unfortunately it is in a buildup area and I cant shoot with anything other than a pellet. It is almost as if they know it. And when they get the chance the are in the house and stealing food/fruit. Its a bit frustrating but there is nothing much we can do about it.

These baboons are not shy. They chase the guests around. I have sorted out aprox. 60 problem baboons in my lifetime. I cannot see why
36 - 40grains of lead in the brain won`t do the job. (up to 60m = highvelocity hollow points = easy)

And as far as accuracy goes. My 8 year old son shoots a 5mm,
5 shot group at 40m with the .22. You also dont have to visualise where the brain is, you know.

But hey, if you are not so sure of your shot placing, why don`t you just throw them with fire crackers, that will also work.

They are only so bold because it appears that they have not been shot at for a long time. Shoot one and see how long they stick around.

The head is the most mobile part of any animals body. Baboons constantly look around. They are not going to stare at you straight on for very long. If they move their head as you squeeze the trigger you will have a wounded animal. Putting a good quality centerfire bullet right through the chest cavity will be much more certain. Hunting is not fishing and we should not be looking to try and shoot with the "lightest tackle". Use something that is more than adequte and place your shot in the area with the highest chance of success and the lowest chance of failure.

I have shot a few with 100gr std bullets in my 243 and none of them got up - but they are VERY clever! Aim for the biggest part of the chest with a high velocity round - the shock seems to incapacitate them as well!
