Cape Town - An alleged smash-and-grabber was shot dead on Monday by a motorist in Bonteheuwel, the City of Cape Town’s Metro Police have confirmed.
Deputy Chief Yolande Faro said the incident was believed to have taken place at 14:10.
"It is alleged that the deceased had smashed the car’s window and the woman driver shot him," she said.
The motorist then drove straight to the Bishop Lavis police station, where Metro officers found her at 15:25.

"She is extremely shocked and traumatised and is currently receiving trauma counselling before she can be questioned," Faro said.
The scene is a known hotpot for smash-and-grabs, she confirmed, and the City had regular patrols along this strip.
The shooting was also caught on the City’s surveillance camera, Faro added.
By 16:30, police and the City unit’s members were still on the scene.
Police were not immediately able to comment.

I am sure many of us will approve of someone fighting back against a criminal, surely the Police will frown upon someone shooting and killing someone who is a petty thief and is unarmed ?
Although it can be argued that someone breaking a window could very well have been a hijacker instead, and that one would not know the difference between a hijacker and a smash and grabber before it is too late.

Another point that may make the Police frown is not the fact that she drove away from the scene, but if the article is correct then the woman only arrived at the police station 1 hour and 15 minutes after the incident even though the police station is only 2km away.

If he was within arm reach doesn't really matter if he is armed or not, he showed intent on using violence by breaking the window and also plenty of past cases where drivers were seriously injured by smash-and-grabbers or have their windows smashed when hi-jacked. She drove to the SAPS station immediately it took METRO 1h15min to find her.

Speculating now, unless he death punched that window with his bare knuckles he was armed.

Ah, I missed that part about it being Metro who took that long. Thanks.

Not sure how credible the info is as I saw it on FB but okes that were apparently at the police station at the time recons the lady in question Is a tourist from Italy. Now if this is true where did she get a FA from. Are tourists allowed to bring FA into the country. If so I'm sure there are laws around that or what may be brought in( hunting, competition etc)

    Anyone?

Maybe not bring it in, but a Section 21 application for SD is very plausible.
