No decent self-defence ammo!

I like to vent about a topic related to effective self-defence ammunition. Why can't the importers of Winchester, Federal etc. make an effort to bring in the premium hollowpoint brands such as Ranger-T, HST, Gold-dot etc. It seems as if they just bring in crappy, substandard, old tech stuff if they bother to bring in anything at all. If you're going to bring in Winchester Supreme SXT (old fashioned) hollowpoints and charge the earth for them, at least make an effort to bring in Ranger-T's. There should not be a massive variance in price judging by what dealers in the States are charging. There is actually a demand. Importers need to keep their ears to the ground and cater for people serious about self-defence and not just hunters! When I first bought my handguns back in 1997 there was plenty of choice. Now there is just junk. :-\

I replace my carry ammo at least once a year and buy Gold-Dot's when they're available (rarely!).

I must agree i think i phoned a dozen shops today asking for 9x19 carry ammo only two had anything. The stuff available wasnt great either. Agents for speer said next year! Come on guys make effort.

My carry ammo for my 9mmP comes from a local company NGA. I'm pleased with the performance and availability. It's called Sentry, or Elliminator.

The NGA Sentry has had issues with nose-caps coming off during cycling. If those issues have been resolved then I stand corrected. As a matter of interest, how much did you pay for yours, mic?

I think that the problem is that most gun owners out there think one of the followng:

1. Hollowpoints are illegal,
2. Ball is good enough for the police,
3. Hollowpoints are not worth the money,
4. A hollowpoint is a hollowpoint is a hollowpoint.

Accordingly the importers don't make the effort and bring in whatever. Like Winchester whitebox and Magtech.

While i like the concept of the sentry i dont think i would bet my life on NGA QC just seen and heard of too many problems. The nosecap thing is a worry as well.

I'd carry Eliminators if forced to do so. I would, however, load them myself and glue the nosecaps on.

Get Gold Dots. Theyre available and probably better.
