The gunsmith would not be processing the evidence but merely providing a fired case and projectile for subsequent processing at the ballistics lab. The initial evidence from the crime scene was also provided by a civilian.

Then the LCRC guys must drive with water drums in their cars to make it easier. Or if the victim has a pool shoot it in there. Because obviously having an extremely controlled environment that can be duplicated such as a laboratory isn't important.

Explain "extremely controlled environment" with regard to obtaining a case and projectile. The tricky bit is the comparison of the evidence using a comparetor microscope. One is looking for matches in rifling ,firing pin impression, breech face impression and extractor impression.

Let me see if I can ask one of most senior forum members and an actual ballistic expert to answer you. Because obviously you're not thinking this one through.

Can your mobile ballistic lab please double as a mobile CFR? Maybe we can get our licences quicker. Possibly the most idiotic idea I have ever heard. I have seen the Pretoria lab making glaring mistakes, so I can just imagine what a mobile one can get up to. Please go and read that thesis Dickie posted before continuing on this train of thought. And think "chain of custody".

That guy overstates his qualifications. Shows you how little you know on the subject.
