    Default Price of Gun Competency

Hi there i was just wondering what is the average price of a gun competency course?
I live in joburg, phoned a couple place and the prices obviously varied from place to place depending if you do hand gun, shot gun, and carbine all three or just one.
    Thanks

Be careful. Some of the guys, ususally the cheaper ones, only offer the knowledge of the act unit standard. This is for renewals only, not for new apps.

There is no HMC unit standard any longer. Make sure that you are doing self-loading rifle. If you do the HMC standard it will not be recognised as the last date for achievement has passed.

I don't know of any accredited place that offer the legal + practical for less that R800. That is what I paid for mine about a year ago. As mentioned, watch out for "fly by night" courses.

This is a long journey, would suck if you had to do it twice because your "Certificate of Proficiency" isn't worth the paper it was printed on.

IIRC, Quenets Firearm Training in Worcester were about R800 two years back when the wife did her training for a handgun (this included the legal aspects as well as the practical).

Best bet is to call your DFO once you have selected a training provider and find out if he is accredited.
There was a list that the SAPS had at one time that listed all accredited training providers, I might still have it. Even so, it is out of date now.

Doing my SLR and shotgun competency tomorrow (have already done law, pistol & rifle).

Was quoted R700 each, after asking for discount settled on R1150 for both.
