A lot of it has to do with mindset. While a on/off hit may remove you from the fight against your will humans have evolved over thousands of generations, they are pretty hardy creatures. Not as hardy as some but still.

On the flip side someone I know was telling about an LEO hit in a non vital area with a smaller bullet (I am tempted to say .22 but it may have been 9mm) and basically took himself out of the fight because he was "injured", to be executed by his attacker.

Don't go down if you are hit, embrace the hate and fight back, just be aware this applies to bad guys as well!
