Hunting Eland - what bullet?
Hello all, I am due to hunt eland in 2 weeks and need some help, first question is which caliber but since I already have a preference i need to know which bullet. Shots will be 100-150metres.
I would like to use my 9.3x62 which I have:
a. 286g PMP ProAM
b. 286g Hornady Interlock
I also have:
1. 300 H&H with 180grain Hornady SST
2. 300 H&H with 200grain Nosler Partition
3. 300 H&H with 200grain Woodleigh, this would be my choice in this caliber.
Lastly there is the 450NE with 350grain Swift Aframe!
Thanks in advance for your experienced advice.

Re: Hunting Eland - what bullet?
Definitely not the 300 H&H with the 180gr SST's. The others will all work. Will you be hunting mature bulls or cows and sub adult bulls?

Re: Hunting Eland - what bullet?
In my opinion all the calibres mentioned have enough oomph to take down an eland. Take the one you are most comfortable with and/or which gives you the best accuracy. I would probably go with the 9.3x62 because it should have better terminal performance (bigger bullets & wound channel) as well as a lower speed which means less meat damage.
If you are comfortable with a "head shots only" approach and if the terrain would allow for it, take the 300 with 180gr.
I do not know what the trajectory of the 450NE is.

Except for the 300 H&H with 180grain Hornady SST, I would feel comfortable using any of the others.

Re: Hunting Eland - what bullet?
Interesting that you have no proper premium bullets in your selection (except for the overkill 450NE load), considering the price of your quarry.
But as they all said, all will wotk eccept that 180gr SST.

Re: Hunting Eland - what bullet?
With a muzzle velocity of around 2350fps, your impact velocity at 100m is going to be around 2100fps and probably around 2000fps at 150, so I cannot see bullet failure occurring, even at point blank range I think the interlocks will still hold together perfectly well.
Go enjoy the hunt;)

Suggestions for premium bullets? I thought Nosler and Woodleigh were such.
