TYPE 56 OR.......???
Hey Gents
thread has been very quiet so here is a question.
If you had to choose one other SLR other than your AK (chinese and all of them) what would it be.
Reason I ask is im very keen on another rifle in 7.62x51/.308 so probably a Fn or G3 depending on how much my kidney will sell for
Lets hear what you would get

Re: TYPE 56 OR.......???
If I could only ever have one more, would probably be the R1/FN Fal.
If I could buy right now and no limit on budget, would most likely start with a AR platform in 10" or less, followed by the FN and then something in a pistol calibre, maybe a POF.

Re: TYPE 56 OR.......???
I am also starting to do my homework on this. I am not actually a big AK fan, but was thinking FN/FAL...
Now, I see a few suggestions for 5.56/.223 rather 7.62/.308...
What would be your driving motivations for that? Cost of rifle or ammo? or are there other reasons or considerations us less in the know might need to know about to make an informed descision?
regards

223/AR = Cheaper ammo, less recoil, faster follow up shots......can shoot more in the same day.
After how many rounds of 7.62 do you get tired of shooting? 223 you shoot more.
AR platforms are better setup for optics.

Re: TYPE 56 OR.......???
i have a type 56 7.62x39 and have her kitted with an ATI tactlite package and am verry happy.that said..i only went this route because of the initial costs...an AR platform in 223 makes more sense. also , to me there is just that something about the AK/56 that just makes it so damn desireable

Re: TYPE 56 OR.......???
My first MSR was an AK, for 3 reasons 1) the Saiga was cheap. 2) the ammo was, at the time, cheaper than 9mm ammo. 3)It makes a bigger hole in the target. :P I specifically didn't go .223 LM because it is too heavy of a gun for the little hole it makes and there wasn't really any AR's around besides ancient SP1's.
My next purchase will be an AR. They are smoother-better-faster. And 5.56/.223 is cheaper again.
I would like something like a SCAR17 but every time I think of that my wallet climbs out of my pocket and kicks me.
While the FAL and G3 are nice, you already have a DMG major gun. Unless you wanting to shoot IPSC then I don't know.
