Re: Brownells, USPS, SA Post Office
Hi guys.
Yes...Brownells are amazing.
SA Post Office not so.
Finally got my 'goodies' on Friday after 4 weeks of waiting.
Had the USPS tracking number (International First Class Post) but SA Post Office kept telling me that they had no record of the parcel.
Kept on going into my local post office 'just in case' and on Friday it was there...complete with a SA Post Office Tracking Number !
The parcel had just been sitting at JIMC for over 3 weeks !
Glad that your parcel arrived safely MK1.
Regards,
Keith.

New department on our side, they not worried about $ value, but you have to get an import permit from them before customs will release gun parts (according to a few threads here, ammo boxes need a permit too).
It was the case a while back, but maybe they gave up, that's why I asked the OP if he had to get a permit.

Re: Brownells, USPS, SA Post Office
Hi Guys.
You will also have to 'Google' www.sars.gov.za and look for Schedules to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 (Tariff Book).
You then have to go to Schedule No.1 ... Section X1X... Chapter 93... Arms and Ammunition ; Parts and Accessories thereof.
This will then give you the code for the particular item that you are importing.
For example the magazines I was importing carried the code 9305.20.30(9).
(9305.20 Of Shotguns or Rifles of heading 93.03...Magazines and parts thereof).
The ITAC forms needed are ITAC IE463 and ITAC IE463(Annexure) which you get from WWW.ITAC.ORG.ZA . Which you then submit (by e-mail) together with original invoices from the supplier.
The whole process nearly drove me insane.
Not helped by DHL who were supposed to be the importing agents for CZ-Bruno, should have done all of the paperwork but didn't, hadn't got a clue; and originally gave me the wrong SARS code which was for a fully automatic 'military' machine gun which sent ITAC into a total mind f**k !
That was when I 'took over the process' and did all of the paper work myself...see above !
Good Luck...you will need it.

Re: Brownells, USPS, SA Post Office
I never applied for any permit, and both my orders arrived with NO issues at all.
My first order was for sights (± 70 dollars), and my second order was for magazines (± 50 dollars)

Also brought a few things in recently. Could be wrong, but seems if you use a courier, they then ask for ITAC permit. If you use USPS, I never got asked for permit. Agree ITAC process a complete pain. Had to send the same forms 4 times as they kept asking for something else.

Re: Brownells, USPS, SA Post Office
At what point of the "ordering process" did you know that the permit was required?
