Matriarch 2 vs Black Talon 2
So which do you prefer and why? Want to get one but can't decide.
For some reason whenever I look at a Spydie I get the impression that they are overpriced for what you getting, specifically the Endura/Delica and Tenacious/Persistence series, obviously the Para's, Millies etc are much higher end.
Tell me why Spydies are held in such high regards?
eg. A CRKT drifter costs R500, has the ubiqutious CrMov steel, G10 scales, imbedded liners etc.
A Spyderco Persistence costs R1400, has the same steel, G10 scales, also made in China, so why the R900 price difference?
I know they different designs, but the materials are the same and there is really not much difference in the quality of manufacturing.

I have found that spyderco has better QC on the heat treatment of the steel. Both brands can have the same steel and be made in China but it is worthless if the steel isn't heat treated properly.

IMO they are crass and his business ethics are very questionable... have you read up on his ridiculous law suit against CRKT?
Sal from Spyderco definitely has a lot more class and the Matriarch was designed for us in SA, which earns it brownie points, bit like the Bokkie from CRKT. I think that if these companies (Spyderco and CRKT) are prepared to make knives just for our market then they deserve our support.

I would say that the Cold Steel has several advantages over the Spyderco, from a practical standpoint. G-10 vs plastic scales, and the very robust Tri-Ad lock over a standard back lock. Its also a bigger knife, if that's important to you.
I would suggest considering the Civilian over the Matriarch, I would say that is more on a par with the Black Talon. Cost-wise more expensive though but you do get G-10 scales and a longer reach.

Do you not get a Matriarch in G10?

I have owned a civilian, very nice knife. And own a matriarch which is also nice I have never seen one in G10 but am considering the black talon 2 as I feel it would win out over the matriarch in my opinion. I know ow the guys don't like cold steel but I have a few of their knives and can not say a bad thing about them amoung others I have were the black Sable the Caledonian edge the ak47 the other names fade from memory and will have to go check but I have always been happy with their offerings then again I am by no means a knife expert
