    Gert...it would be cool if it could be built as a light weight double but unfortunately,due to the high pressures generated,it would not be possible to really save weight,not on the metalwork anyway.

    Also,not being a rimmed case,it does not really lend itself to the double configeration.....however you do get .458"s in double rifles.

    While this shorten"d case does create feeding problems in a standard .458 bolt action rifle,it is a pleasure to shoot in a .458 double.It is much like shooting 38"s in a .357 mag revolver.

    So the short answer would be to stick to a standard .458 in a double but you can use the shorter .458 2 inch ammo with the advantages of less recoil ect.

    The very similar 45-70 would be better suited, due to the case rim, I think. And they are already available.

    Yip,the rimmed case of a 45-70 provides for a larger extractor with more possitive leverage on the case head than the tiny spring mounted claw needed for a rimless case in the design of a double or single shot rifle.
