    Default Scorpion ID?

We are at Mabalingwe and upon arrival two of these okes have decided to welcome us. Total length with tail included is slightly longer than a match box. The tail is slightly thicker than the pincers. Colour is a dirty yellow, almost khaki.

This one looks a lot like the one you have found. It was killed after stinging my wife on the nose - it was in amongst clothes she was carrying. Length of 30mm. Luckily for the wife it seems as though she only got scratched by the stinger when she threw the clothes to the floor.

I read up on scorpions in SA - I think the figure is 120 different ones. It is therefore not easy making an ID.

These little buggers are nasty things. They also get into places you'd least expect them.

I found one (when I was in the Kruger) in my backpack.
I would have shot it (just kidding), but my pistol was at the bottom of said backpack . I shook it out and it scurried away. Luckily I saw it when I picked up my backpack.

My knowledge on scorpions is rusty but I do know that thin pinchers and a thick tail means trouble. Our specimens had 3cm body length and a similar length tail. The tail was 2-3mm in diameter.

I was taught the same thing as a kid, small pinchers thick tail, give a wide berth and do not mess with them.

Venomous. Poison is absorbed or ingested. Venom is injected.
