Cool Mid Range Tactical Rifles for 2017

Looks like 2017 is the year of the mid range tactical rifle, with new Tactical Rifles from many of the big manufacturers aimed squarely at the Precision Rifle Series - Production Division market.

I've guess-timated the pricing below based on the Ruger Precision Rifle - Gen 1 that had a MSRP of $1399 and sold here for R29,000 in Dec 2016.

Ruger Precision Rifle - Gen II - $1599 MSPR (hopefully around R33,000 here)

    308 Win - 20" Barrel with 1:10 Twist

    6 Creedmoor - 24" Barrel with 1:7.7 Twist

    Tikka T3 TAC A1 - $1799 MSRP (hopefully around R37,300 here)

    308 Win - 20" or 24" Barrel with 1:11 Twist

Weatherby VMC - $1519 MSRP (hopefully around R31,500 here)

    308 Win - 20" Barrel with 1:10 Twist
    223 Rem - 20" Barrel with 1:9 Twist
    6.5 Creedmoor - 20" Barrel with 1:8 Twist

Winchester XPC - $1599 MSRP (hopefully around R33,000 here)

    308 Win - 20" Barrel with 1:10 Twist
    243 Rem - 24" Barrel with 1:10 Twist
    6.5 Creedmoor - 24" Barrel with 1:8 Twist

    Mossberg MVP-LC - $1150 MSRP (hopefully around R24,000 here)

    308 Win - 18.5" Barrel with 1:10 Twist
    223 Rem - 16.25" Barrel with 1:7 Twist
    6.5 Creedmoor - 22" Barrel with 1:8 Twist

Howa HCR - $1299 MSRP (hopefully around R27,000 here)

    308 Win - 20" or 24" Barrel with 1:10 Twist
    223 Rem - 20" or 24" Barrel with 1:9 Twist
    6.5 Creedmoor - 22" Barrel with 1:8 Twist
    243 Win - 24" Barrel with 1:10 Twist

The Ruger always interested me, but also the Tikka when they introduced it. I'd like one of these two personally, although I think the Howa will probably prove to be the wise buy.

wow! some nice options coming out. that's great for us end users!!

barrel length.....I thought the most popular barrel length at PRS comps is 26" followed by 24" ??
    unless the trend changed?

RPR gen1/gen2 with 243 Win/6mm Creedmoor in 26"/24" and 1 in 7.7" twist is spot on!!
few others got the 243 Win but in 1:10" twist. not going to work with the popular 6mm 105-115gr bullets.

Totally... and I'd bet that they're well within the accuracy of rifles 3 times the price.
    Great it's really taking off.

Yeah, I would have thought so too, but with 85% of the targets between 350m and 850m, it's not overly necessary, and the balance and maneuverability of the shorter barrel actually makes a LOT of sense. 20" Barrel with a reflex suppressor could be the bomb.

yeah, that was weird : Tikka 308 in 1:11, Howa and Weatherby 223 with a 1:9, Winchester and Howa 243 with 1:10... seems someone missed the latest bullet memo.

What do guys think of the respective twist rates on the 223 and 308 specimens?

    308 - 1:10
    223 - 1:8 or 1:7

Lets you use all the latest looong high BC bullets, and doesn't limit your rifle.
Buying a rifle now days with less than optimal twist is like buying a merc/bmw that only goes 80kmph with a fixed limiter. ;)

Out of pure curiosity, how is the term "mid range" determined ?

Are we referring to price, Cal, or effective range ?
