    Default Scent and hunting

i see these sprays that hunters use on American hunting shows, to mask or reduce their own scent.

i hunt kudu every year and know how sharp their senses are. i would use anything to give me an edge. but those sprays i just don't know. does anybody hear have experience with such spray on products?

some of the guys i had hunted with would peel an orange and keep the peels in their pockets. other guys would as soon as possible step into cattle or game dung and then start the hunt. but never saw anyone spray stuff on themselves.

other than sprays do you guys have some tried methods to at least mask your scent?

The spray stuff works...or at least some of it does. I got a buddy who spilled a bunch of that 'doe in heat' scent on himself and got tackled and raped three times by big bucks before he could get out of the woods!

Lions often roll in buffalo dung when following a herd.

I used to make a "tea" from the local plants in the areas where I was working on my traps (problem animal control). Soaked all my kit (clothes included) in it the day before setting out.

    Slightly off topic:
Be very careful with orange or naartjie peels around your rifle.
The oily secretion from the skin removes gunblue instantly!
