Really Peter, shooting at an animal with a .50 cal sniper rifle is NOT HUNTING it is shooting.
Your heading to this thread is an insult to all ethical hunters (please not HUNTERS and not shooters) who have the necessary respect for the animal.

How is it different from sitting on a hilltop and shooting an animal with a 308? Is that also not hunting?

TRG, take a deep breath and calm down. Peter is well known and is a decent guy. He didn't advocate using a 50 BMG but simply asked who might be using it. But even if he did and/or does, I don't know what makes shooting an animal with a .375 more ethical than a .50 BMG, as long as its cleanly killed either way.

I recall a member of GS (I forget who it was) hunting a Giraffe with a .50 cal, as in walk and stalk. Just because a .50 is a long range commonly used sniper caliber, doesn't mean you can't hunt with it. "Hunting" hardly refers to the caliber in use.

    Just remember

Precious few people make a hunting bullet for rifles in the 50cal.
Bullet makers goes to great lengths and spend lots of money on bullet development.

So it you plug a big animal with a target bullet, even in 50cal, you are looking for trouble, it might just shatter on a big animal bone.
If it's military spec it won't open, and then a little old 375 that expands to double diameter will do a LOT more damage.

    Just keep that in mind.

OK I see Hornady has a DGX in 50 cal. Will that work in Truvelo 50 cal?
