Hunting Karamoja Uganda
I thought some of you guys might enjoy some pics of a recent safari I just conducted in the newly opened true wilderness of the Karamoja in Uganda.
Rainclouds coming over the mountains
Heading towards the Sudan border
What passes for a road
We turned this one down because the client wanted a scrumcap bull
Flash flood
Jackson's hartebeest
Buff
We found a scrumcap on the 4th or 5th day
Coffee break
Brace yourself for this one

If you were take all the best things of all my favourite places in the the 30 years I've been hunting Africa, you'd call it Karamoja.
It's a tough hunt in many ways and not suited to the champagen safari crowd and other cissies but I loved every moment of the trip and if I had to choose just one place to hunt for the rest of my life, it'd be there.

We stopped for a while at the Greek River crossing going into the Pian Upe game reserve where Karamojo Bell and later, Ken Stewart now of Stewart Bullets used to camp. We had a good look round for their old campsite but so far haven't found it. I'm going back in late June and will have another look then.
Photobucket seems to have crapped out but I'll try to post more pics later.

Ah got photobucket to work again.
Greek River bridge and entrance to the Pian Upe game reserve
View from Pian Upe game dept offices. I guess the hill in the background is what Bell called 'The Knob'
Hard to believe but the entire 27000 Km2 has cell phone reception so no RBGans or sat phones etc are needed.
Camp

Headwaters of the Nile
Somewhere in there is Bell's and Stewart's old campsite

Thanks Shakari, you made my day/week/month! Where's the gin bottle?
Did you hire locals for tracking, skinning etc, or did you import your own?

Is see the guard is armed with an AK, is it for specific threats such as poachers or bandits, or, is it for just in case?Last edited by camouflage762; 17-05-2010 at 16:33. Reason: shpelling

Hell, that looks brilliant. Glad to see the "scrumcaps" are in demand.
