plaauw....have a squizzie at my post on the velocity as well as Messor's post #20.

However...i am sure your buddy will be back safe and sound.

Just as a matter of interest,as it does make a difference,is your buddy gonna hunt a bull or a cow?Lots of okes are now shooting cows as they are less than half the price of a bull and this whole thread has actually been about buff bulls.

OK - so Messor wants to know why I asked the question ......

I am a firm believer in Sierra and will remain that way forever ..... BUT there comes a time when maybe (just maybe) there is a better bullet for the job. I have a year to get ready for a possible bushveld experience and Buff might be on the list. My thinking at the moment is to work up a load with softs and solids. For the softs I am deciding between the Rhino bonded solid shank and the Swift A Frame. For the solid I am thinking of the Barnes or the Rhino 300gr.

I was looking for a good reason not to shoot the Sierra into a Buff. If there was overwhelming evidence to show that a 300gr Sierra is widely used and respected by PHs, then I would have stayed with it. I will continue to use the Sierra 300gr for all the non dangerous stuff but Uncle Buff is another story entirely.

So ... I will put the Sierras aside for the purpose of my bushveld trip and start experimenting. All advice is welcome.

Why would you want to shoot Sierra's when they seem to be more expensive than A-frames or Barnes?

    Anyways, 2 tips.

Firstly check the price of Norma Oryx.
Secondly, if one doesn't know what your rifle will do with a specific bullet, Peregrine does sell bullets per 25, meaning you can try a monolithic whiles only buying a few.

I've just gone over to 300gr Norma Oryx in my 375H&H. Price is very good but accuracy is fantastic.
