As guys have said above, a decent base layer is important.

I have found odlo to be the best and I have a shirt and pants combo that have lasted me 7 years. Stay away from underarmour/canterbury style

The trick here is that when you go indoors it is normally quite warm and the expensive base layers will regulate your temperature.

I find any top brands like North Face or Arcteryx will have a jacket that will allow you to wear a base layer, a shirt and the jacket and be perfectly warm. I normally add a hoodies if the temperatures will drop.

Top brands of jackets will last you a long time and when you are nice and warm walking down a street you will thank you wallet for forking out the cash

The other key point is to keep your feet warm and if it is snowing wear decent boots that are waterproof/water resistant. You can take any pair of leather boots and add that waterproofing stuff from CPUM

Quick google search brought up this https://thesavvybackpacker.com/how-t...earn-to-layer/

Agree with a lot of what they say

Amazon.de is a good place to look and you can get it delivered to wherever you are staying

Its been up with me twice onto Matroosberg by Ceres during Snow time.
And then it snows alot on there.
The jacket keeps out wind and wetness and has alot of heat inside.

Im not referring to the Parka German type once everyone use to wear.
This is a fleesed inner thick waterproof Parka from Jonson.

So you are comparing Matroosberg where it snows overnight and a place like Germany where in December it rarely goes above 3*c, rains all the time, snows and is generally fuck off cold all the time?

My old K-way ski jacket was not as good as I had hoped from last time and I think I will need another cold weather/ski jacket. I was freezing while sitting in the Hochsitz!

Are you going hunting again? Sitting still in a Hochsitz the whole day in cold weather is completely different from skiing or walking around Matroosberg. You are sitting still, not moving about, so not generating heat.

Outer layer wind/waterproof to keep you dry and stop heatloss. Then as many layers as needed for insulation to keep warm.

Dont forget about peripherals(hands/feet/head) decent socks/gloves/beanie/thermal buff.

    People differ

A family member of ours worked on the border of america and canada for a while during winter time. The snow was a meter thick mostly and temps around -15 was normal. Yet when I asked him if he got real cold there he told me no, he's been through worse nights in the Karoo.

As such, I would hate to buy something that is either not adequate, or over bulky before hand. Personally I would layer up, because in essence that means you can layer off when needed.
