Isn't it illegal?

Re: Bow fishing
I can't speak for legality but think Fred Tucker had some gear a while back. Have not been in store for a long time though.

Re: Bow fishing
I would think that you should look into the legalities 1st, I did a few years ago, after I bought the kit and as a result the kit was only used for practice, it now occupies a permanent spot in the cupboard, sadly the shop was only too happy to sell it to me, without even hinting about the legalities, similar to shops selling semi auto's for hunting without warning the prospective owners as to the pitfalls.

Re: Bow fishing
Bow fishing isn't illegal. In some provinces you might need a fishing permit
Search on bow hunting forums for info. There is a lot of ideas available.

Re: Bow fishing
It does get a bit tricky to practice catch and release.

Re: Bow fishing
Bowfishing is classed as a prohibited method of fishing where I asked.
I called both Gauteng and Limpopo, and on top of your fishing permit, you also had to apply for a special permit allowing you to fish while employing a prohibited fishing method. They both required written consent from the landowner authorising the use of a bow, as part of the motivation.

Re: Bow fishing
Should you choose to take this up as a hobby, be warned. Do not expect many warm welcomes on the water. I have witnessed it ending badly for guys on the vaal river(Shooting spawning yellows). Endless discussions on FB fishing groups. Make sure you have your EDC on you when Bow fishing.
