Musgrave .270 or Brno .308
I have the option of buying these rifles at a good price. The Brno 308 is R4500 and the Musgrave .270 is R5500. I wont be doing a lot of hunting but if I do it would be Impala, Bushbuck and at a strech Kudu nothing bigger. More time would be spent on the range and some competion shooting. Which one should I go for. My first chioce would be a 300WM but that will have to wait.

I don't own any of the two calibers, but if it was my choice I would go with the 308, assuming that you will be hunting mostly in the bush. The 308 is also a more than capable caliber on the range, it does not have as flat a trajectoy as the 270 but loaded with 180 or 200 gr bullets it can take up to eland with a broadside shot.
At the end it comes down to personal preference, my first gun I bought is a Brno 30-06 it is a good working rifle that shoots moa and has served me well. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a competnt gunsmith check the condition of the barrels before you decide to buy.
Good luck with your decision.

Go for the 308. Lovely caliber to start off with, nice range of bullet weights to choose from and plenty of energy for bushveld shooting. The 270 might have a flatter trajectory but I prefer a heavy slow(ish) bullet for ranges under 200m. Most common weight ranges for shop bought ammo is between 150 -180gr. If you reload the weight range increases.
If your hunting was predominantly open plains shooting at longer ranges I would choose the 270. Most common weight range for shop bought ammo is 130 - 150gr.

Close you eyes and toss a coin - both are brilliant and you wont go wrong with either. I would take the 270!

hi there, i would go for the .308 cause you can still use it on the plains as well as use it in the bush. but the final choice is yours so good luck.

Davidc, is the 308 a BRNO ZKK model (earlier model) or the CZ550 (later model)? If it's a ZKK I would take it in a heartbeat.
