Default SA Police get “most expensive bulletproof vests in the world

"SA Police get “most expensive bulletproof vests in the world” SAPS paid R33,402 per vest, of which “a significant slice” went to a Durban businessman who acted as a middleman."

Things become normal . There was an allegation Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality spent R150 per 500ml water bottle

And this is why the war on crime is being lost. The people who are supposed to be upholding the law have forsaken their duty and instead see it as a means to enrich themselves.

Flipping criminals. Anybody in a position of authority should be locked up for ordering stuff (any stuff) at such inflated prices!!

    Those vests must be impenetrable....

This is not a uniquely South African phenomenon, greedy, corrupt businessmen/politicians are everywhere. Doesn't make it right but still...

Out of curiosity, does anyone know where the old vests are sourced from? Presumably they are locally manufactured?

LOL, but these 20mm tempered steel vests are completely impenetrable to handheld firearms! They even come with trolley wheels on extended bases so that the wearer can walk around! ;)

The problem with steel plates is that they splash. Ceramic tiles are a much better idea. Said after having tested both for a variety of manufacturers back in the 1980's.
