SADPA introductory shoots for non members.
Hi
I would like to introduce a few friends to SADPA this year. It seems that non members will be allowed to shoot a few matches as an introduction to the sport (game) before they need to join.
If I'm not mistaken, they will be allowed 3 shoots as non members. Is this the case?
Do these "visitors" need to complete the NSO and/or a classifier before they may shoot in a match?
I'd appreciate some feedback.
Thanks
Gavin

Re: SADPA introductory shoots for non members.
I was on the SADPA website today looking for the very same info. Couldn't find anything. Maybe I missed it.
Hope someone can help.

Re: SADPA introductory shoots for non members.
from what i remember, they will not need to do the full classifier.
there is some type of form to be completed and the person needs to prove to the SO and/or MD their competence and have to shot the match under that SO's guidance.
I am sure once SADPA offices open again they will post the exacts.

Re: SADPA introductory shoots for non members.
The On Target magazine has a full write up.
Basically:
The idea is to have a SADPA member prep prospective new members regarding safety, rules and range commands. Het them ready for the assessment shoot.
1. New SADPA membership forms. Shooters code, indemnity etc
2. Pre match assessment shoot.
3. Complete assessment form.
4. If deemed successful on the assessment shoot, SO who assessed the person must carry on giving instruction to shooter in the club shoot. This SO takes responsibility for rest of match.
5. Scores submitted has some admin associated such as keeping database if prospective shooters. To keep track of 3 max shoots etc.
This full process must be done for every shoot.
Limited to tier 1 shoots.
I see no real mention in the draft proposal, but I assume that a basic NSO must be done to teach basic safety rules and commands.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I suppose more information will be forthcoming when the SADPA office opens.

Re: SADPA introductory shoots for non members.
I introduced my brother to SADPA mid December at our club.
Pretty much what Grobbie has mentioned above.
To add, during the shoot (Handgun), he was not allowed to draw or reholster but rather start in 45' ready position.
Prepping the person on safety, commands, scoring etc before hand helps smooth the process.
Cheers G
