I see Wusthof make a wide range of sharpeners that are reasonable prices and foolproof systems.

Yes! If I'm not home there are a selection of Zwilling, Victorinox, Makro chef knives to use. The damascus carbon steel is my babies, because I wash them after use and only cut on clean wood or plastic.
I use the ceramic to keep the fine edge on most knives and I haven't seen any damage from it-do not use excessive pressure and heat/friction. When there is time I will labour with the Lansky set or a fine oil stone. Perhaps it is time to invest in Japanese wet stones.

If time is no problem, then i suggest the lansky stones kit. The deluxe with a 1000g fine stone will keep those knives spectacular. Probably will need a once of good sharpen, then day to day use a honing rod

I know this is an old thread but, the Spyderco Sharpmaker for me is the best. it takes a while to learn how to use it right but it is fantastic for keeping a keen edge on everything from my EDC to the kitchen knives. I also dont believe in "cheep and cheerful" kitchen knives, i much prefer a really good steel that i can look after and use for many many years. Blunt knives are dangerous and cause more injuries IMHO.
