Anything from cutting open boxes to cutting sections of lanyard from Paracord for roper staff.

Removing bee stings, cutting of thread runs in the missus' dress and kids clothes, killing crocodiles, killing pigs, cutting pipes(LDPE, let's not get too excited) I helped two old ladies fix an umbrella on the beach with my knife. Lots of little things. Do it.

There is something odly satisfying about watching your knife slide through a nice thick rare steak in a single motion while other people saw at their steaks.

It makes your steak look so much more tender and juicy. Slightly lifting it as you cut through to protect the edge... The looks from the other people are like. Light bulb "Aaaaaaah now I get it."

    Ok so answer me this.

Is your EDC knife a tool or a carry(self defense) knife?

If it is a tool then use it, if it's for carrying purposes, I would not.

I have given this a lot of thought. Using a knife often I have been playing with the idea that if you use your SD knife for everyday stuff as well your first instinct when thinking "I need a knife" would be to go to your SD knife. This also creates muscle memory and you can automatically locate and efficiently deploy your knife. Obviously this would entail making sure your knife is sharp more often.

If one of the experts could tellme what would be the con's of that approach.

I carry one of a variety of Kershaw SpeedSafe knives for daily use in my weak (left) pocket and a Spyderco Matriarch 2 Emerson Wave in my sting side pocket for fast deployment. I practice drawing it once or twice a day.
