    Default Loctite

    Good Evening Guys.
Can I use Loctite on my shotgun's choke threads to stop the chokes from coming loose ?
    Thanks and regards.

I cannot comment on Loctite as I have never used it.
But an acquaintance of mine used to put nail polish on his scope ring screws before setting them. He says it just helps them "hold" a little better, but is still easy enough to remove the screws if needed at a later stage.
Since then, I have also used nail polish on all my scope ring screws. Not sure if it works but I have never had to re-tighten any of them

Locktite thread locking compounds are available in various grades and for various applications. May I suggest you first visit their website and select the correct grade for your application?

The worst thing that can happen, would be that you are stuck with a glued-in choke tube...

Choke tubes should be easy to remove. If that means they occasionally come loose all by themselves, maybe that's not such a bad thing? Just check them for tightness occasionally.

Are chokes not supposed to be a “field interchangeable” item? That alone tells me that they should not be too tight.

Rather use choke tube grease, available at your gunshop.

    Thanks Guys.
That's a 'no' for the Loctite.
obasch...I've never heard of choke tube grease.
Even at my 'advanced age' there is always something new to learn...Thank You.
I will ask for it at Dave Sheer Guns next time I am there.
    Thanks again Guys and regards.

When you want to remove a bolt or nut that has Loctite on you warm it.
So when your choke tubes get hot the loctite will start to loosen.

Why is your Chokes sitting loose.

    Hi shooty.
    I don't really know.
Went clay pigeon shooting yesterday and 'used up' around 200 competition cartridges (24gr).
It was when I was cleaning the shotgun that I noticed that the bottom barrel choke was loose; the top barrel choke was still 'tight'.
I think it was negligence on my part for not 'keeping an eye' on the tightness last time I put the shotgun away.
Won't happen again as I've put a sign on the safe door (next to the one that says 'check for cat') which says 'check chokes'.
    Should all be good now...
    Regards.
    Keith.
