Default Why advertise/sell items not in stock?

Why does this happen? I saw an item advertised by a well known gunshop, ordered it online and received an invoice for the item. I duly paid and waited for delivery, no item showed up. I eventually contacted them and was told that they do not have said item in stock, but they are expecting stock shortly. I gave it a week or two, phoned again and got told the same story. Phoned a few more times; got the "we are expecting stock shortly, please be patient" reply again.

Two months down the line there is still no stock; now I get told they have no idea when stock is expected.

The bit that gets to me is that the same item is still available online.

The 1st part, a couple sites state please phone/contact to confirm stock 1st. This helps me as a buyer to know what items they can possibly source.

The 2nd part of accepting payment and stating stock will arrive shortly and then changing to no idea when, then get your refund asap

Wait till you cancel sale and ask for refund. And they say there is a 10% cancellation fee. lol

I would just ask for refund.

Yes and then you can charge them 30 to 40 % interest (microloan) for the time they had your money and for your banking fees etc.

They did not fullfill the contract and cannot deliver the product. Would be unfair to charge you any handling or cancelation fee

Please tell us who it is so we can all be aware of the shenanigans they are up to.
There is nothing worse than being lead long.
We need to vote with our feet in cases like this and stop supporting them until they change their ways.
    My 2 cents worth!

Sometimes websites aren’t updated regularly, or inventory slipups happen.

Euro Optic Africa’s website is linked to our live inventory and even then we sometimes have orders slip through when an item isn’t in stock.
Our SOP is to immediately contact the client and offer a refund should something like that occur. It’s only fair.

And yet they still offer the same item for sale two months after they became aware that it is out of stock?
