My security is not armed. It's been annoying me from the start, but now it's VERY much so. They also don't have access to the yard, so I have to get to the gate anyway, which means anyway exiting the bedroom and moving through the hall gate. I'm relatively certain at that stage that nobody is inside the house, because nothing has tripped inside and nothing is detected either. Upon exiting the house, the guard was inside the yard, in light, visibly inspecting the whole area I'm about the exit in. There's no space for someone to hide (really). The place is relatively well built in this regard.

Worry would be turning the corner behind the garage to get to the back of the house - there's a chance of someone hiding there. I didn't think of this.

PS: By the time I exited the house I already checked around the outside - switched on the outside lights to look around, etc. I didn't blindly exit when the alarm tripped. In fact, between the trip and when I exited I checked the yard twice, checked the alarm panel several times for movement and didn't notice anything "odd". Still can't be sure though, I am aware of this. Don't think I'll be opening the gates again in the future. Security oke can walk around - I'll cover from the house.

Kilnerpark security sends guys out with paintball guns if I heard correctly. Sometime that works with the missus uses them as well, and they come with paintball guns. My biggest concern would be them confronting someone armed with a gun or a knife. I'm sure I know if a armed response company there. Citi protection I think. Also think adt is there.

I feel your pain, I don't just pop out of bed ready for action.

My house is also designed to live in and not as a fort.
But we try our best to sort this out with gates, burglar bars and alarms. However I had no view of my entrance gate nor my front door. I had alarms trip and left the house as it was at the flat on the otherside of my property. It is a stupid move at night when it is dark.

Now I have CCTV and flatscreen in the closet in my room. If anything bothers me all entrances to my house can be seen and 95% of my yard and don not have to leave my bed. It is expensive, but even the smaal bumps I heard at night and assumed it was my dogs, can now be confirmed and seen on camera, or not.

For the waking up thing I still need a better plan. I leave all my self defense needs in the same spots so I get to them without thinking.

    layered barrier security

so you know where he is before he gets to you

far too many people rely on the hardware store xpanda burglar bars that screw into the frame (one kick wonders), also how many people have hollow core doors on their passage and bedroom? solid with dead bolts means bad man breaks his knee.
sure its not cheap, taken me over a year to get where we are now. still have to get the cctv installed so as to have remote viewing from the room

by the way, just found out none of my neighbours have armed response (they cancelled)
my house might look overboard with lights, but my neighbours dark yards must look so much more appealing
