    Default Spider bite?

    Hi all,

I'm working in Saudi Arabia at the moment and it seems something has bitten me properly on the back of my neck.
I first noticed it this last Friday, scratched it as it was itchy. Mistake. By Sunday the symptoms started to show, most of which I've experienced before when I was bitten by a Violin Spider (many years go) and they're similar.

So as a result I've taken pics (albeit poor quality as it's a DIY initiative) for the last 3 days. I've been cleaning it with Dettol and last night decided that discretion was the better part of valour, so I started a course of anti-biotics that I'd brought with me (just in case).

I've posted the pics below, anyone have a qualified opinion to offer?

    Day 1:

    Day 2:

    Day 3:

Agreed - Violin spider or family. I got zapped on my forearm a good few years ago in Bots. Landed up with a hole about an inch in diameter right down to the muscle. Doc scraped it out like it was a boil - sharp pair of scissors. EINAAAA! I must admit that he gave me the choice between fast fix or slow fix. I guess the slow way was pilletjies.

    Be careful of spider bites.
An employee's mom was bitten by a bag spider(sak spinnekop).
The flesh started rotting away at the bite mark and made a nasty hole.
Docs managed to clean the wound only to see her back in hospital n few weeks later as the venom started affecting her kidney.

Perhaps you could consider to go to your doctor Just make sure he/she has some experience in this field Otherwise consult a veterinary practitioner. They usually know more about these matters than the ordinarydoctors

There was a thread or two a few years ago. Some contributors mentioned good results with peroxide, but please see a doctor

The Saudi doctors should have experience.

I got bit a few months ago. Definitely not pleasant. Caught it in time so little tissue damage but I was out of action for a while. Cleaned the wound twice daily and took antibiotics as prescribed by my doctor.
It is difficult to see exactly what it is, but if you're at all worried it might be one then get to a doctor asap. It may make the difference between no flesh damage and a lot of damage. Your neck is definitely not a place where you want such tissue damage anyways. My parents were bitten by an unidentified spider in Natal a few years ago and found the bite marks two weeks later.... the damage was severe.
