What knife is the best self defense knife and Why?

I carry 2 x Spyderco Endura 4 (1 in the left pocket and 1 in the right pocket) with the Emerson Hook. The reason being that I work in an office environment where I do not want something to big. I find them light and easy to carry and easy to operate. Carried tip up and thus fast opening when drawn. It works for me..

I carry a Cold Steel AK47, right side and a SOG Trident left side.

I prefer the hook style opening on the AK.

Don't be fixated on blade length. Knives aren't really suited as stabbing weapons, use them for cutting. The blade length (within reason) is not relevant.

I use a Cold Steel AK47 left side ti lite right side. I like Cold steel build quality and the hooks on both make it possible to draw and open at the same time.

I'm assuming you're referring to folding knives as opposed to fixed blades. Any of the name brand folders should be adequate ie. Cold-Steel, CRKT, Spyderco, Benchmade, SOG etc. It comes down to personal preference like anything else. Just do enough homework to establish whether or not the lock is going to be strong enough to withstand slashing against bone/stiff clothing. It must also be deployed as quickly and easily as possible one-handed. I recall something about a guy in this month's Magnum action report being able to deploy his folder and slash his attacker. Its a great back-up plan.

Great for weapon retention too. It would take a dedicated attacker to withstand repeated slashes across his wrist and hand if he were trying to grab a pistol from a holster.

And great for opening a beer bottle if you dont have an opener handy!!

I carry a CRKT My Thighe (assisted open) RH and CRKT M16 LH. But at work, I'll drop the My Thighe and replace with a CRKT B.U.L.L. More of a utility knive for opening boxes and stuff, but I'll fight you with it if needed.

hi all.

I carry a CRKT M16-04Z (tanto) which Carson designed. A good friend of mine gave it to me ;) (hows it going FMJ). In my opinion there is no better. The quilion (not too sure of the spelling there) that acts as a guard to stop your fingers running over the bottom (sharp) part of the blade when stabbing is inverted when the blade is closed, this is lightning fast to use in deploying the blade and does not lend itself to user error. I love this knife and am considering buying two more, one identical as a spare and another thith dual quilions, both top and bottom. I think these knives run at around the R500.00 mark, but believe me when i say i would pay up to R3000.00 for one of these, the design in my mind is superior to anything i have seen or worked with. I carry mine all day every day, and that has to be saying something. I did buy a Cold Steel AK47 but did not like the way it opened with the thumb, i can never be 100% sure of opening it under stress (this is not a knock on the knife but more so on my own ability). I also used to get really tired of opening the blade every time i wanted to reove it from my pocket, ow yes and the first time i played with it it bit me :(

It now resides with a much better man then i, and i am happier with my CKRT then i have ever been. I know some wil shout at me for expressing my veiws, but its just my opinion based on my personal experiances.

CRKT make some excellent knives and i am sure that there are a few of them in my future. I really like their M16 with the flipper (sorry I cant remember the model number). I have CRKT Ryan Plan B that i really like. Another design I like is the Ka Bar TDI which I would carry everyday it I could find a decent tuckable sheath for it.

As I had a lot to do with the Ka Bar TDI, I recal a tuckable holster from the states, only problem was that it was about the same price as the knife, I think about $25, I will look it up and give you a shout, you bugger, why didn't you contact me for that a long time ago, you know who I am so I can't run away, the only thing I can do is maybe give you slow and bad service!
