AR vs LM(5) vs AK
I have the above choice for a 3-gun rifle.. The AK is brand new (black synthetic - Russian made). The LM and AR are used but in good enough nic. The AR is quite big - full length it seems, with no modifications. What would you guys do?

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
What calibre is the AK in? Prices of all? Which AR variant is it? SP1?

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
AK is in .223 or 7.62x39
Dont' worry about prices.
The AR is original Colt. The serial number starts with SP. (???) Attached is a pic of something simular..

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
Looks to be a SP-1.
I really like 7.63x39 AKs but none would be a bad choice.

makeminea10mm;
This site should give you the information you asked about in the other post...the 'SP' stands for 'Sporter'

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
Thanks ikor, I just posted that link in the other post! Guess you just quicker on the draw, hey ;D
makeminea10mm, I don't know the 3 gun rules of IDPA & IPSC, I think they may differ with how they classify calibres, but not sure, others here will be able to shed some light on this.
As for which I'd go for, I like AR's and if you don't take this one, please PM me some details on it, and I may remove the temptation for you. Although being a full size rifle, the AR might not be best suited to sports shooting. If you don't go 7.62x39, I'd go the LM route, yes they heavier, but I think they're a better allround choice in the long run, plus mags are easier to come by I think.
My SP1 is in the SP141 number range and is dated to around 1982, if that helps.
Good luck with your decision, its a lovely problem to have!"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
My SP1 is serial number S 1039XX and I bought it brand spanking new here in the states...but Vektor has not had a presence here for a long time now. Nice pistol but very heavy and they needed to get the $#@! SA safety lever crisp...not mushy...as well as a better trigger pull. Still, I have much faith in it even with Beretta mags (It will take a Beretta 20 rounder too! ;D) Sure as Hell you could do worse than the SP1!

Re: AR vs LM(5) vs AK
Thanks for all the help!
This serial number is SP157*** and if I checked the site correctly, it dates back to the 70's. It's in good nic but that's quite old..
Are there any restrictions on modifications for this early model? Like installing a tactcal scope, light, strapped mags etc. What else can be done?
Ciao.
