    Default The importance of penetration

The force on force segment of SWATGs course this weekend reiterated the importance of choosing a carry load with sufficient penetration for me this weekend. In the airsoft drills we noticed that very few of the shots that landed were direct centre chest. There were some but they were by far in the minority. The majority of shots that the guys took were at strange angles into the body or first hit them in the arms or hands.

This for me brought home again the danger of choosing a carry load with shallow penetration as many of those shots may not have reached the vitals where they would be needed.

The FBIs 12 inch minimum is well thought out and to my mind serves a purpose. Rant off.

This brings to mind some training material I saw a while back where you are presented with 3 dimensional targets in a 3 dimensional environment. The idea is to get you thinking about shot placement at various angles, what you may need to aim at or shoot through for you to reach your desired shot placement. Very interesting stuff indeed, gets you thinking outside the box.

It is amazing what you learn with the force on force training done in this way and as it is not lethal, you also get the idea of having to keep on shooting until the thread is no more....
