Default Travelling advice hoedspruit from JHB

    Hi Guys

just need a bit of advice with regards to travelling to Hoedspruit from JHB.

I am thinking to travel through middelburg, belfast, Lydenburg and then the panorama route through ohrigstad to Hoedspruit.

Would you say its a decent enough road to travel and for ladies too?
if you have any alternatives please advice

    thank you in advance

Nice route, the road between Belfast-Dullstroom-Lydenburg has some potholes, but if you take it easy you'll be fine.

Alternatively, if you have the time, head out on Longton pass, and rejoin after Ohrigstad. Very scenic.

Treat the ladies to a light lunch at Art of Food in Dullstroom.

Enjoy the trip and scenery. The whole route from Belfast is pretty, up to there is a chore!

The whole area is worth spending time in. I also like traveling the gravel roads. Decide wheither your vehicle and your ladies can endure that.

Pilgrimsrest is a place worth a visit. Just don't buy anything there...

Avoid the Bosbokrand area at all cost. Not safe to travel trough at times.

Some of the tarred roads have HUGE potholes. Drive carefully.

That is the best route. Just watch for cattle and speed traps between orhigstad and the pass.

Drove through there a couple weeks back. Some beautiful scenery. Nothing dramatic about the road stood out.

When last have you been to Pilgrims’ Rest? Nobody goes there anymore.

I travel down to Hoedspruit pretty regularly (around 3-4 times per year) and have done so for the last 8-9 years.

Think that this route is probably the best, although be aware that there can be some potholes between Dullstroom - Lydenburg - Origstad. This tends to depend on the time of year and weather conditions over the previous weeks/months.

Good luck — the route from Belfast onwards is pretty scenic, especially the portion through the pass and tunnel.

A while back I drove from Bushbuckridge via Hoedspruit to Phalaborwa on the R40. It is the worst
potholed road I have ever been on.
