Re: Australia - they do not clean their guns these parts.
You can google and read up on copper equilibrium in your barrel.
There are a lot of long range shooters that swear by it.
Basically foul the barrel and shoot +-100 shots and adjusting your load downwards to get the desired muzzle velocity/grouping.

Re: Australia - they do not clean their guns these parts.
+1000!!!
This topic reminds me of an incident many years ago, late 1980's.
I was working as a QC tech at PMP, received a very irate customer complaint, a Free State farmer nogal, of his .243Win Lyttelton RSA rifle having blown-up using PMP 100gr SP ammo (this was before PMP Proamm ammo was launched). He had bought the rifle new in 1974, used it for culling springbuck and blesbuck.
Long story short, after a lengthy, complicated and detailed in-depth investigation, the root cause was found to be a complete lack of cleaning the barrel.
When the chamber end of the barrel was sectioned for metallurgical testing, the rear section of a perforated bullet jacket (the part behind the cannelure) was found wedged and expanded in a severely fouled and eroded throat, while the base of the jacket, lead core and front part of the jacket had been shot/forced out the barrel.
Upon questioning the owner on his barrel cleaning regimen, his answer was classic: "Loop skoonmaak? Nooit gedoen nie, ek skiet hom sommer skoon!"
Admittedly, his was a severe case of barrel neglect, but illustrates Messor's point.

I think more people damage their guns by over cleaning rather than under cleaning.

Somewhere there is a thread on barrel cleaning and the arguments for or against.Other than an oily patch to avoid rust I long ago gave up on all the solvents and scrubbing.

A rough bore from the factory will do that. Worn machine tools will create rough surfaces which material will cling to and softer jackets seem to worsen the problem.
