Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
Im in the fortunate position to get a brand new Glock 19 as a present. I will be using it fot IPSC because I already have a Vektor SP1 for SD.
I have heard some talk about a "Striker spring" that is red or blue and want to find out which one is best. Also would like to know what I can do in terms of sigths, mag release and so on to make it a better Firearm that it is already.
It will also used for occasional SD carry as the verktor is a bit on the heavy side.

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
The blue spring is designed for NATO spec ammo. Its unnecessary with commercial primers. I'd get the red spring for added reliability on my SD gun. It adds a little to the trigger pull.
The sights are crap.
The mag release is fine. Leave it alone.

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
Congrats on the 19
I agree with SSP.
The stock sights are little more than slot fillers I would suggest replacing them with Heinies or Warrens.
The red spring does help with harder primers but my preference is the Wolff extra power striker spring. Doesn't effect the trigger as much and works well in both my Glocks.
I would leave the stock mag release alone and would definitely stay away from the factory extended unit as it is easily accidental activated and eats my left hand. If after a couple of thousand repetitions you absolutely cant reach I believe Tango Down does the very slightly extended Vickers release.
I personally prefer the factory 2kg connector but it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
let me jump in here, everyone (and i do mean everyone) has been quoted on here saying that the stock Glock sights are crap, slot fillers and ball breakers (ok maybe not the last one).
I like the standard config sights on the Glock. I like them so much that i used mine untill one day i got bee in my bonnet and then changed them out for the Glock steel sights, identical tot he standard in every way except that they are steel instead of rubber, to be honest, it was just a thing i thought to do, as the current, factory sights were doing fine, i like the standard sights, so now i ask all of you.....
What is the problem with the standard Glcok sights???
is it that you guys dont like the "dot" in the middle of the "u"
or because they are rubber ???

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
Well, Andy, my problems with them are twofold. First, they break...as in the front sight breaking off of the slide. I have seen this over 20 times at the least, and they do it worst with LE type security holsters...CCW rigs, not so much. Second, the little short, fat bastages are difficult for me to pick up quickly in the too small rear 'window'...all the more so as my eyes get older. You can, BTW simply turn them around if you prefer plain black sights to the U and dot.
I like the Heinie sights...have a set on my old G19 now and will get another for my new one later with the wider rear notch. I have a set of Trijicons on my G17 but wish I had opted for Heinies there as well. I have never seen a set of Warrens but I sure would like to.
I don't know you but my guess is that your eyes are still young...enjoy them while you can. Once you begin to reach 'old fart' status, things are gonna change for you, my man...like you would not believe. ;DRun Fast, Bite Hard!

+1 on Ikor's post. In addition, the front sight edges start to "round" off after a while. IMHO, they suck. There are plenty of far superior designs on the market. I have both Heinies and Warren tacticals, and you can't even begin to compare how big an improvement they are compared to standard Glock sights.

Agree with Ikor.
The plactic/rubber sights just do not last and I am not a big fan of that white 'u' at the back.

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
ok fair enough then, i dont usually carry my Glock in holster, so i would not have had the front sight rounding off or breaking on retention holsters etc, i do quite like the "U" set up in favour of the three dot sight picture, to me the three dot is too busy for a lightning fast aquisition. i would prefer the "U" or the "dot the 'i'" sights that guns like the Sig employ, when buying night sights in the three dot config, i always get the rear in a orange and front in green as Green is brighter int he night sight i find, and therefore is the most visable int he dark, and that all i want to put is my front sight on target in a rush.
Ikor i am still young(ish) and do have 20/20 vision, but i thought that the Glock sights would be even more easier to read as the lines are white and large enough to see and pick up easier then the usual, i think so anyhow...

I don't like how the plastic front sight peenes outward at it's top edge. The rear notch is too narrow on the std plastic rear and they get rounded and shiny with carry.

Re: Converted to tupperware - Glock 19
Actually, Andy, when you think about it, having a design on the rear sight...when we all know that it is the front sight we should focus on for accuracy...is a bit silly. Lining up the standard U and dot (or two dots or three, etc.) will almost never result in best accuracy because 'shooting the dots' as we call it, leaves the front sight too high, since the front dot (assuming you see the whole dot), by necessity, must be below the top of the sight.
I have found that a plain black rear, combined with a front blade with tritium dot works very well for me, and is cheaper to boot...in fact, you could do halfway decent work at close range without any rear sight at all...especially with a pistol you have shot regularly...but never without a front sight. Having said that, however, I think that probably the best colored sights I have ever used for daylight shooting were / are the orange front insert / white outline rear S&W revolver sights. Even those, however, have the same issues with POA / POI being off, but they were adjustable via screws.Run Fast, Bite Hard!
