Default Early Warning Device- tripwire method

“Intruder approaching silently is unexpectedly scared off with a big BANG!!
    • Mr Nobody "shoots" at intruders without a gun.
    • Protect people & property.
    • Safeguard common entry / escape routes.
    • Can help as early warning at long perimeter fences or borders.
The BangPen is a device with a tripwire and a shotgun primer to keep out illegal trespassers and intruders in remote areas. The tripwire can be set in the length or direction you choose!”

    1. Is it legal?
    2. How could one buy shotgun primers without shotgun licence?

The fact that it uses a primer should make it illegal in my opinion. You set it up outside and if I interpret the act correctly you are not in direct control as required. It would be the same as leaving ammo/powder or primers unattended.

This product is available at various places, and can work with a Hilti primer.

Don't know where you buy Hilti primers, but I'm sure you won't need to produce a licence at the hardware store.

Hilti primers are not controlled and no license or permit required.

I raised this question here 2.5 years ago: not so much whether the product is legal, but more about how the law regards me as the owner and operator of the device within an urban context, the do’s and don’ts and can’s and cant’s, especially should I have objections from difficult neighbours, i.e., could I be accused of discharging ammunition (albeit blank) within an urban context, which could then potentially morph into a question mark over my fitness to hold FA licences.

An admin approached me offline and asked me to "let sleeping dogs lie", even though the cartridges do not fall under the FCA, they did not want me drawing "unnecessary public attention to the matter" since the products do serve a valuable life-saving purpose, especially in rural applications.
