3 bushpig, lucky night!
Copy of Img_1495.jpg
Wife drove through orchards, I was on back of bakkie with Ar15 plus spot.
Came across a group of 12 pig and kept shooting as I looked down the rows.
The sale of the meat covered some ammo!

Re: 3 bushpig, lucky night!
ARs and piggies just go together!
Now if only you guys could get 1 in 7 barrels and some 75gr Open Tip Match rounds with some flat tops and optics (or even better...NODs and lasers!), we'd be renaming you 'Pigslayer' instead of Maverick!
Nice boet!Run Fast, Bite Hard!

Re: 3 bushpig, lucky night!
Thanks guys! I've only shot 5 pigs total. Many oppurtunities lost trying to get out of the backie and getting tangled up with the spot. Having a patient and obedient driver really helps.
Pigs were a problem on the farm until last year. A brave fellow with a muzzle loader and night vision binoculars asked to come and hunt. His first night he counted 50 (fifty yes) pigs in my orchard. Over the winter he shot 28. He's a mad bastard going after them barefoot with a muzzle loader. He says he makes too much noise with boots...I didn't mention the night adders!!!
He's now upgraded to mounted nightvision on an old 303 but the pig population is way down.
A great way to hunt pigs is with trained dogs that flush them from their sleeeping place. When the hounds bay it is pure adrenalin to get there first to make the shots. Then you notice what the 'wagnbietjie' and hackdoorn have done to your clothes.
The AR was bought in the mid 80's by my dad and has the standard Colt scope...low power and one can adjust the range from 100m to 500m. Very accurate! My brother has dropped some baboons at 400m. Unfortunately with my skillset and shakes, don't venture over 100m.

Re: 3 bushpig, lucky night!
Ok, I guess spending a few $ on a NVG is worth it?
We've got problems with Hogs on the farm in Piet Retief area. Even though abundant, I'm yet to get my first one... after 10 Years & counting ~Blush~
I walk & stalk & never get in a shot before the buggers buggers-off...
I'm looking at an youkon or ATN GenI, budget issues :(
Any Ideas?
PS. used to know a guy who used to crawl through plantations barefoot with a mini-maglite & 9mmP... ish....
