What would the value of this Smith & Wesson 1917 45 DA
A family member has this revolver. From the serial number its date of manufacture is 1918. They were commision to fill the gap of the colt 1911 standard army and navy isseu. They could not produce the colt 1911 semi auto fast enough and contracted Smith & Wesson together with Colt to produce these .45 ACP revolvers as they could produce them quicker... i do know they served in WW1, WW2, KOREA and Vietnam.
So my question is do they have any value and is it a keeper...

My grandfather had one in 450 Adams, same calibe? They are nice from a collectors perspective and recon they would probably go for the same as a Webley MKVI (3Kish). Are you looking to sell or keep it? If sell I’d be keen.

Who couldn't love a large calibre wheelgun? 😎
I have no idea on value, but I would say it's a keeper!! Were they not Parkerized instead of blued?

Thanks will hold on for a while. I see on the international gun sites they go for between 500 to 900 Dollars...not sure of the value locally

Does it take 45ACP or a rimmed revolver cartridge?

Yes i beleive they are Parkerized...this one is in pretty good shape...just needs a good clean

45ACP ...there are half moon clips to assist extraxtion. I have seen on YouTube they fire the rimmed cartridge as well Originally Posted by CorditeCrazy

Ah ok, My granddad had the Hand Ejector II, that was in 450/455. either way you have anice gun there.

The revolver was made to take the 45 ACP with moon clips. Off course the cartridge would load and fire perfectly without the clips, but extraction would be an issue. Originally Posted by CorditeCrazy

They usually have very smooth DA triggers.
