Loose Barrel
My thanks to Andrew for pointing out that the barrel/stock fit on my Brno-CZ 601 is loose....Thanks again Andrew.
Is this an easy fix or one best left to a gunsmith ?
Regards.
Keith.

Re: Loose Barrel
Could be an easy fix. We can have a look at it together when convenient.

Re: Loose Barrel
You can tighten the screws without any trouble. Just be careful to use a screwdriver which fits well. The metal on firearms is usually quite soft and easy to strip or damage. Double hollow ground screw bits fit better than a normal tapered tip screwdriver.

Re: Loose Barrel
You should be tighten the screws very easily. Use some Locktight as well.

Re: Loose Barrel
I like those older Brno ZKK600-series rifles a lot. However, I have often joked that their stocks were likely inletted by by drunk Chech with an axe in the dark. It is ROUGH.
The fix is to properly bed the barreled action in the stock. I like to use some kind of epoxy for the job. With the ZKK601 (and similar), do decide what you want to do with the 3rd screw under the rear sight. The ZKK602 (magnum action) also has a 2nd recoil lug there, complicating things significantly.
An inspection of the rifle by a knowledgeable person should reveal wheither an bedding job is needed or not.

To add to this, I had to free float my ZKK 601 barrel twice. Once when I got it and the rifle moved from Pretoria to Potch, and once again when we moved to Stella. The stock's front end is thin compared to other rifles, and the thin wood warps as the atmosphere changes. Even after free floating the barrel a second time, I had to remove small pressure spots again when the season changed. And yes, I agree on the drunken Chech theory.

Re: Loose Barrel
It helps to seal the stock on the inside. So if your stock has an oil finish, also coat the inside surfaces (mag box, trigger recess, barrel channel) with some stock oil. This should help to prevent moisture from the atmosphere to enter (or leave) the stock during seasonal changes in humidity.
Do this after fixing the bedding, as epoxy will not cling well to an oiled stock.

Re: Loose Barrel
Thanks Guys.
The barrel is 'loose' at the end of the stock.
I have a set of gun makers turn screws which should do the job.
Question....Which screws do I tighten and where do I find them ?
As you can probably guess, this is new territory for me
Regards.
